Elizabeth Veglia has
brought communities together through her
numerous public art projects. She enjoys the sense
of pride and ownership that a community develops when it works
together to form a public work of art.
Community art projects are not only reflections of the
community, but each tile represents a piece, a person of
that community. Just as each community is made of a
diverse population, each mosaic is composed of different
colored and shaped tile that work together to form a
beautiful, communal whole.
Below you will find a sampling of selected
community projects.

Response:
"I can't think of
a better way to personally take part in memorializing these
American heroes."
[Stennis SC Director Tom Donaldson, RDML USN
(Ret.), on laying the first tile for the Stennis mosaic
of American space
heroes]
"We felt it was
important to not only create a permanent memorial to America's
fallen astronauts, but also to allow our employees, visitors
and school children to become part of the process as they
remember Columbia and the other lost crews." [Linda Theobald, NASA public affairs officer at Stennis
Space Center]
"Ms. Veglia shows
the strength, endurance and the need for art--giving
hope and vision to people. What a nice gift to
the people of Waveland." [Hilarie Lambert
on the Waveland City Hall
mosaic] |
